There are four supported methods to perform a firmware update on this printer, depending on whether the printer is ready or in an error state:

before you start
Before updating the firmware, make sure any solutions you use with your HP printer are compatible with the new firmware version, and review these requirements:

Updating Firmware Using Web Jetadmin (WJA)
Learn how to remotely update a single printer orMultiple printers at the same timeUse HP Web Jetadmin 10.4 SR2 or later.
The duration of these steps varies depending on the size of the printer firmware files and the capacity of the server. Even if HP Web Jetadmin is installed on a high-end server, HP recommends that you keep other HP Web Jetadmin tasks to a minimum while running a firmware update, as it is a resource-intensive operation.
Update firmware using WJA
Follow the steps below to remotely update the printer's firmware orMultiple printers at the same timeUse HP Web Jetadmin 10.4 SR2 or later.

Do not interrupt or turn off the printer during the update process. After the update is complete, the printer will automatically restart. If the firmware update process fails or is interrupted due to something like a power outage, you can fully recover by running the firmware download again and restarting the download. Web JetAdmin will display a notification with information about the failure and a link to retry the process.

About Firmware Updates
If you attempt to downgrade the firmware from a remote location to a version prior to FutureSmart 4, the downgrade will fail and you will receive99.02.32
control panel errors and33.05.09Event log error.
This is due to a new security feature that requires someone to be present at the printer to perform the firmware update and prevents HP SureStart printers from being remotely updated. For more information on this feature, please visitBuilt-in security features.
HP recommends using the latest firmware available, but if you absolutely must change from HP FutureSmart 4 to HP FutureSmart 3, use the preboot menu and avoid mistakes.
