The Samsung Galaxy S23+ is one of the company's current flagship smartphones. It's an intermediate model between the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Ultra. The phone basically lives in the shadow of the Galaxy S23 Ultra, although it's a great phone, as we were able to spot while using the device. That said, we'll compare it to its predecessor here to see how they stack up and whether it's worth the upgrade. OKCompareη SamsungGalaxy S23+to samsungGalaxy S22+.

The two phones are very similar in many ways. However, there are some differences worth noting, which we'll try to do here. We'll start by listing their specs side-by-side, and then compare them in other categories. We'll discuss design, display, performance, battery life, camera and audio performance. So let's get started, shall we?

Samsung Galaxy S23+ vs. Samsung Galaxy S22+: Diseño

The two phones are very similar in design. In fact, it would be hard to tell the two apart if it weren't for the difference in the rear cameras. Both have three cameras and are placed in the same place, but the setup looks different. The Galaxy S23+'s three cameras protrude directly from the back panel. The Galaxy S22+, on the other hand, has a dedicated camera island that attaches to the frame of the phone.

From the front, the two phones look very similar. Both have curved corners and round viewing angles. Both phones have very thin bezels and a hole at the top to reveal the cameras. Even the buttons are on the same side. Both phones have an aluminum frame, although they have different glass on the back. The Galaxy S23+ has Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back, while the Galaxy S22+ has Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the back.

announcement

The height and width of the two phones are almost the same. Well, the Galaxy S23+ is technically a bit taller and wider, but the difference is so small you won't even notice it. Both are 7.6mm thick and weigh the same. They weigh 196 grams. Both phones are IP68 certified, and both devices are slippery. Use cases might not be such a bad idea at all. They're definitely premium phones, that's for sure.

Samsung Galaxy S23+ vs. Samsung Galaxy S22+: Pantalla

The screens of the two phones are basically the same in terms of maximum brightness. Both feature a 6.6-inch full HD+ (2340 x 1080) Dynamic AMOLED 2X display. It's a 120Hz panel that supports HDR10+ content. You can get a maximum brightness of up to 1750 nits, but note that you can only achieve this with the auto brightness setting. The manual slider will get you up to 1200 nits of brightness.

Phone comparison: Samsung Galaxy S23+ vs. Samsung Galaxy S22+ (2)

The display has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, and we're seeing 393 ppi in both cases. The Galaxy S23+ has better screen protection because it includes Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Galaxy S22+ features Gorilla Glass Victus+. The difference here is really small. Both devices, by the way, have flat screens, unlike their "Ultra" siblings.

The screen looks the same on both phones, but that's not a bad thing because it looks great. It's bright enough, and viewing angles are excellent. It's vivid and very sharp, even though what we're looking at here is the "only" Full HD+ resolution. Blacks are deep and the tactile feedback is good. Scrolling is very smooth and we have no real complaints here. You can even customize both screens through your phone's settings.

Samsung Galaxy S23+ vs Samsung Galaxy S22+: Performance

The Galaxy S23+ is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor for Galaxy. It includes 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM and uses UFS 4.0 flash storage. The Galaxy S22+ is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 flash memory. In this regard, the Galaxy S23+ definitely has the upper hand, in every sense of the word. Does that mean it's definitely superior in performance? No, not really.

Both phones work flawlessly. The Galaxy S22+ is also so powerful that you won't really notice a huge difference in day-to-day performance. The processor inside the Galaxy S23 is not only more powerful, but it consumes less power and heats up less during intensive tasks. The Galaxy S23+ also has an edge in RAM and storage, making it more future-proof, in case you were worried about that.

We noticed less stuttering on the Galaxy S23+ when using graphics-intensive games during intense gaming sessions. It also gets a little less hot during forced usage, but honestly, the difference isn't huge. But of course, the Galaxy S23+ will stay smooth for a longer period of time. It might be worth upgrading to the Galaxy S22+ just for the performance-related improvements.

Samsung Galaxy S23+ vs Samsung Galaxy S22+: Battery

The Samsung Galaxy S23+ has a built-in 4700 mAh battery. The Galaxy S22+ packs a 4500mAh battery. So the Galaxy S23+ not only has a larger battery capacity, but also better overall power consumption. That must mean it offers better battery life, right? Well, yes, it does. We managed to get the Galaxy S23+ past the 8-hour screen time limit, while the Galaxy S22+ consistently needed 6 to 6.5 hours.

announcement

However, please note that your mileage may vary. Also note that this does not include games, we played games for testing purposes only. The Galaxy S23 Ultra offers more in terms of battery life, although the Galaxy S23+ should be able to match it based on specs alone. Well, this is a little weird. However, the battery life of the Galaxy S23+ is significantly better than its predecessor.

In terms of charging, they are identical. Both phones support 45W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging, though it should be noted that there is no charger in the box. So, if you want to take full advantage of the charging benefits of both phones, you'll need to buy a suitable PD3.0 charging brick separately.

Samsung Galaxy S23+ vs. Samsung Galaxy S22+: Kamaras

Both phones have a 50-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle unit (120-degree FoV), and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera (3x optical zoom). Are the sensors the same here? Yes, same performance? No. The Galaxy S23+ offers better camera performance in many ways. We noticed some improvement in the HDR department, but also in low light.

Phone comparison: Samsung Galaxy S23+ vs. Samsung Galaxy S22+ (3)

Most of the time, low-light images produce more detail. They are also more balanced overall. However, during the day you can barely tell the difference because both phones do a great job. Both devices tend to offer Live Photos, which look a bit processed, but well done. Not many people like images that are soft and close to real life. So this is what most users will prefer.

announcement

The Galaxy S23+ also offers better selfie camera performance. Video recording hasn't changed much, but the Galaxy S23+'s image seems to be a little more stable during strong vibrations. However, the difference is so small it's not even worth pointing out. Both are pretty good in this regard, but not at the level of the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

sound

Both phones feature a set of AKG-tuned stereo speakers. The speakers on both phones are very, very good. They are very powerful and very detailed. There's even some bass in both cases, and the sound is well-balanced. The differences between them are pretty minimal, but the Galaxy S23+ seems to offer clearer sound and stronger bass. However, this may just be a placebo effect.

You won't find an audio jack on any phone. There's a Type-C port on each of them, so you can plug in wired headphones that way. However, if you prefer Bluetooth, note that the Galaxy S23+ supports Bluetooth 5.3, while the Galaxy S22+ supports Bluetooth 5.2.
